Sustainable development is a concept and idea that promotes a way of life involving responsible consumption and generation of resources, with the end goal of a brighter future for our generations to come. The aim is to make sure that everything would last longer, either by ensuring that current methods could be prolonged, or by switching to an alternative that can simply withstand being used for longer periods of time.
In 2016, UNESCO has listed 17 goals as a guide to help us reach this ideal everlasting future. These goals are aimed to be fulfilled by the year 2030 in setting a path for a sustainable future that would last us centuries and hopefully even millennia to come.
In making sure that the 17 SDGs can be fulfilled by the year 2023, we have to make sure that all elements are not only put into practice, but most importantly, become embedded in our souls. A deep understanding of the rationale of each goal is also important in making sure that we do not only conduct such actions simply because the goals say so, but because we know why we must do these things in shaping a better future.
This is where the element of humanity plays a big role within sustainable development. As humans, we have the natural tendency to have feelings and to sympathise others, especially those who are in close relations with ourselves. Therefore, by empowering our own natural instincts, we can utilise what we have in allowing for a greater change to be implemented.
This does not come easily, however, and in making such a big change, we need the collaborative effort from everyone all over the world. This is why it's important for each of us to play our own role in making this happen.
O children of Adam, take your adornment [i.e., wear your clothing] at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess ٣١
